The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being.

Major duties listed but not limited to:

  • Assessing research protocols and research situations to effectively conduct and manage unique research studies and ensure their proper execution
  • Performing a variety of duties to support concurrently conducted multidisciplinary research projects
  • Independently completing multiple research assignments
  • Possessing an understanding of VA Health Services Research & Development policies, procedures, and techniques is required in order to adhere to guidelines, determine their applicability to situations not specifically covered, and to adapt procedural instructions as necessary and appropriate
  • Having excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to independently prepare correspondence (especially clear, concise, and polite e-mail messages)
  • Identifying, analyzing, and recommending solutions to problems in research work processes and procedures
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (work hours may be further discussed during the interview)
Telework: 1-2 days allowed per pay period. VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: serve as project coordinator and first point of contact for project leads, investigators, research participants, off-site investigators and staff and outside agencies; conduct data entry; abstract data from medical records; transcribe research documentation; conduct subject interviews and/or project observations; prepare, maintain and update project spreadsheets; prepare documents, materials and forms for reports, manuscripts, grants and conference presentations; prepare project materials for mailings, handouts, meetings, etc.; design and maintain filing systems according to protocol; schedule subject appointments; attend project meetings; maintain study SharePoint calendars; create and monitor reproduction requests (i.e., questionnaires, consent forms); prepare tables and figures for publications and presentations; and ensure compliance with required study documentation.

There is no educational substitution for the GS-07 level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
