Duties

Help
  • Initiate, formulate, plan and execute analytic research projects to include new developments in the field.
  • Analyze and prepare the more complex aspects of studies that require more sophisticated methodology.
  • Prepare papers and reports for presentation to professional groups and for publication in professional journals.
  • Extend and modify existing techniques which may be used by other scientists in solving relevant scientific problems and provides technical assistance and recommendations on other complex methods and techniques.
  • Examine reports and articles prepared by others within the organization as part of the peer review process.
  • Serve as technical expert with respect to all phases of their scientific expertise.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

In order to qualify for an Epidemiologist, GS-0601 position, you must have successfully completed a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).

AND

In addition, to qualify for an Epidemiologist position at the GS-13 level, you must demonstrate at least one year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: designing methodology to conduct and evaluate research, performing research on the causes, incidence, and mitigation of infectious and/or chronic diseases with global health importance, publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting research findings at scientific conferences or research institutions, writing technical reports and/or literature reviews that summarize research findings.
