Using statistical theories and techniques that relate to experimental design, data analysis, sampling, quality control, and operations research.
Researching and studying the design and administration processes from the formulation of concepts through specification and analysis of output to the presentation of conclusions.
Assisting with projects and developing preliminary recommendations requiring technical and administrative judgment; performing statistical analysis and providing outcome on results; and/or experience in the use of statistical software packages and computer database tools.

Applying advanced statistical techniques to experimental design, data analysis, sampling, quality control, and operations research.
Developing and/or presenting professional papers or reports on statistical studies or surveys providing technical assistance on complex statistical analyses.
Serving as a technical advisor on various statistical analyses and methods.
Planning and executing a variety of projects and developing recommendations requiring technical and administrative judgment.
Developing listing and mapping applications and developing collection methodology; and/or experience writing procedures for automated or computer-assisted statistical operations.
You must successfully complete a background investigation. Candidates who do not complete the required background investigation paperwork by the pre-determined due date, will be disqualified.
You may be required to serve on a one-year probationary period.

Applicants must meet any basic requirements and specialized experience.
Basic Education Requirement:
Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing, OR
Combination of education and experience: courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
Specialized Experience Statement:
GS-11: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector such as: using data mining process models to design and execute data science projects; assisting and analyzing structured and unstructured datasets to explore and evaluate data science centric models; and assisting to code various programming languages (such as R, Python, SQL, or JAVA) to conduct various phases of data science projects; creating and querying different datastores and architectures (such as Sybase, Oracle, and open-source databases) to work with various types of data as part of the data science project; OR
Three (3) full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education in Mathematics, Statistics or related fields from an accredited college or university or Ph. D. or equivalent doctoral degree Mathematics, Statistics or related field of study from an accredited college or university; OR
A combination of graduate education and experience described above.
GS-12: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector such as: using data mining process models to design and execute data science projects; preparing and analyzing structured and unstructured datasets to explore and evaluate data science centric models; applying a range of analytic approaches, including (but not limited to) machine learning, text analytics, and natural language processing; graph theory, link analysis and optimization models; complex adaptive systems; and/or deep learning neural networks that are part of the exploration; coding in various programming languages (such as R, Python, SQL, or JAVA) to conduct various phases of data science projects; creating and querying different datastores and architectures (such as Sybase, Oracle, and open-source databases) to work with various types of data as part of the data science project; and using tools for data visualization (graphs, tables, charts, etc.,) and end-user business intelligence.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
