Summary

Make highly erodible land (HEL) and wetland conservation (WC) preliminary technical determinations (PTD) and assist with reconsiderations and final technical determinations (FTD).
Serves to assists in making Highly Erodible Land and Wetland Compliance technical determinations, which are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
Provides technical advice and assistance to NRCS field, area, and state professional and administrative personnel in interpreting imagery, establishing history, and making technical determinations consistent.
Makes wetland determinations following procedures as outlined by the state's local operating procedures.
Works with NRCS officials to recommend action(s) to correct deficiencies and make suggested improvements in local policies, practices, and procedures in the areas of geography, soil conservation, soil science and natural resource management.

Basic Requirement for the Soil Conservationist - 0470 Series Degree: Bachelor's or higher degree in soil science or a closely related discipline that included 30 semester hours or equivalent in biological, physical, or earth science, with a minimum of 15 semester hours in such subjects as soil genesis, pedology, soil chemistry, soil physics, and soil fertility.
