Summary

This position is located at the Nevada Skies Youth Wellness Center (NSYWC) in Wadsworth, Nevada. The primary role of the counselor will focus on treating substance use disorder, while also focusing on co-occurring disorders that clients may present with upon entering treatment. Duties

Help

  • Provides intensive residential therapeutic services, consultation, and support to the residential clients at NSYWC. Primary focus will be in the area of substance abuse, addictions, and co-occurring disorders (prevention, treatment, and aftercare).
  • Provides counseling and follow-up services for residents (individuals/group) to include supportive, family, group, cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal therapies. Assists in referral to other resources and inpatient sites where indicated.
  • Works closely with referral sources, treatment team, and fellow staff in interpreting and coordinating services to meet patient needs.
  • Provides case and program consultation for the development of comprehensive residential behavioral health services.
  • Assists in developing and gathering behavioral health data, including medical records, prepares factual information, and reports to assist in developing, evaluating new, or existing programs in the area of substance abuse and cooccurring disorders.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
  • Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
  • Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications and Selective Placement Factor stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-12:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: providing a full range of professional clinical behavioral health services of complex technical difficulty including evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, counseling, referral, psychotherapy, crisis intervention and treatment of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders to patients and families.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: In addition to the minimum requirements, the following license is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of a particular position. Applicants who do not meet a selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration. Applicant must possess the ability to independently practice mental behavioral health as evidence by possession of one of the following licenses:
  1. Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or
  2. Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), or
  3. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or
  4. Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or
  5. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or
  6. Licensed Psychologist,
And Regardless of Licensure, applicant must possess the ability to function independently to provide care for mental health and substance abuse disorders per the states scope of practice. (Must attach copy of licensure to application.)

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
