The Drug Development Section (DDS) of the Office of Biodefense, Research Resources, and Translational Research (OBRRTR) within the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID) is seeking to recruit a program officer/health scientist administrator. The mission of the DDS is to promote the development of therapeutics against biodefense pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases including pathogens of pandemic potential. DDS's program officers promote the advancement of therapeutics through Phase 1/2 via contracts with product sponsors and gap-filling preclinical services, facilitating transitions of advanced product development programs to stakeholders.

Strongly preferred is previous experience with drug development for infectious diseases including any of the following: target identification, lead optimization, chemistry manufacturing and controls (CMC), nonclinical studies, pharmacokinetics, drug substance and drug product release assays, GLP toxicology studies, Phase 1 or Phase 2 clinical trials, and IND submissions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The DDS collaborates extensively within OBRRTR and DMID, with other National Institutes of Health (NIH) Institutes, and with other U.S. government agencies and non-government organizations (e.g., BARDA, BMGF, etc.). Program officers have frequent opportunities to participate in or lead U.S. government interagency working groups.
