The Deputy Executive Secretary is responsible for:
Providing expert advice and recommendations regarding DOJ's internal clearance and coordination processes, including those for securing Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, and Associate Attorney General approval of official actions.
Managing the daily operations of the Office of the Executive Secretariat.
Overseeing the design, development, continuous improvement, and implementation of all Exec Sec programs.
Determining strategies for achieving OES programmatic objectives and analyzing problems requiring the development of creative and pioneering solutions.
Consulting and collaborating with the Executive Secretary, the Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General, the Associate Attorney General on controversial, sensitive, or precedent setting matters.
Representing the Executive Secretary with Members of Congress, the White House, senior officials of other departments or agencies, and leaders in the community.
The Deputy Executive Secretary serves as the alter ego to the Executive Secretary. In the event of a vacancy, the Deputy Executive Secretary serves as the Executive Secretary.
Veterans' preference is not applicable to the Senior Executive Service.
Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st, 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.
You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check for the security level designated for this position.

You may be subject to a one-year probationary period effective from the date in which you are appointed.

Executive Core Qualifications (ECQ)
OPM has identified five ECQs. ECQ2 - LEADING PEOPLE: This core qualification involves the ability to lead people toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals. Inherent to this ECQ is the ability to provide an inclusive workplace that fosters the development of others, facilitates cooperation and teamwork, and supports constructive resolution of conflicts.
ECQ3 - RESULTS DRIVEN: This core qualification involves the ability to meet organizational goals. Inherent to this ECQ is the ability to make decisions that produce high-quality results by applying technical knowledge, analyzing problems, and calculating risks.
ECQ4 - BUSINESS ACUMEN: This core qualification involves the ability to manage human, financial, and information resources strategically.
ECQ5 - BUILDING COALITIONS: This core qualification involves the ability to build coalitions internally and with other Federal agencies, State and local governments, nonprofit and private sector organizations, foreign governments, or international organizations to achieve common goals.
Note: If selected for the position, you will be required to complete an ECQ package by drafting narratives for each of the ECQs for submission and certification by an OPM Qualifications Review Board (QRB) in order to be placed in this position. If you are currently serving in a career SES appointment, are eligible for reinstatement into the SES, or have successfully completed an SES Candidate Development Program approved by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), you will not need to draft the ECQs.
Mandatory Technical Qualification (MTQ)
MTQs refer to the mandatory skills you must have to qualify for a high position. In addition to the ECQs, your resume must demonstrate evidence that you possess the necessary technical skillset for this position.
