Duties

Help
  • Manages the day-to-day activities of a team of cyber security specialists who monitor the USCB networks 24x7 and respond to incidents.
  • Performs the Cybersecurity Operations Branch oversight activities to include project tracking schedules, risk registers, and risk and issue mitigation strategies for SOC and incident response activities.
  • Uses data collected from a variety of cybersecurity defense tools to analyze events that occur within their environments for the purposes of identifying and mitigating cyber threats.
  • Supervises and mentors’ civilian staff, setting goals for performance that align with the USCB and OCIO strategic vision and objectives.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Experience in managing a 24x7 Security Operations Center (SOC) or equivalent incident response team, and Experience in using data collected from a variety of cybersecurity defense tools to analyze events that occur within their environments for the purposes of identifying and mitigating cyber threats.

In addition to the above specialized experience, your resume must demonstrate one year of Information Technology (IT) related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:

  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Additional information

If hired for this position with the Census Bureau, at its headquarters office located in Suitland, Maryland, you will be expected to temporarily telework to maximum extent while the headquarters building is being renovated. Once permitted to return to the office building, you will be expected to do so within 30 calendar days of receiving notification. At that time, you may be eligible to continue to telework or work remotely two or more days a pay period consistent with the Census Bureau's flexible telework and remote work policies and approval from your supervisor.
