Duties

Help
  • Prepares clerical procedures and specifications.
  • Initiates contact with respondents to solicit and/or verify questionnaire information.
  • Operates data entry equipment to enter and verify survey and other types of data.
  • Prepares preliminary drafts of post survey reports for developing revisions to the survey specifications.

GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting statisticians in collecting, processing, analyzing, and editing survey data; training or providing technical direction to junior members on statistical databases; preparing reports for publications; and developing recommendations to resolve recurring data problems.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience evaluating, analyzing, and editing statistical data using data editing software; preparing statistical-related materials for training workshops and providing training to junior members of the staff; organizing and coordinating surveys utilizing survey management software; and assisting in conducting small-scale surveys.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

  • Salary ranges for each location:
    • Austin, TX: $47,858 - $68,905
    • Des Monies, IA: $46,948 - $67,595
    • Harrisburg, PA: $47,533 - $68,437
    • Lincoln, NE: $46,696 - $67,231
    • St Louis, MO: $47,738 - $68,731
  • The incumbent is subject to reassignment to other field offices or to NASS Headquarters, contingent on the needs of the Agency.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Applications will be evaluated in accordance with Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) Delegated Examining Procedures and USDA policy using category rating. Applicants who meet basic minimum qualifications will be placed in one of two or three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified. Within these categories, applicants eligible for veteran's preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans. Category placement will be determined based on applicants' quality of experience and the extent they possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) or competencies:
