Summary

Duties

The incumbent will be expected to provide outside of hours, on-call support for critical systems on a shift rotation basis and, where necessary, work the occasional weekend/evening to perform maintenance, upgrades, repairs or troubleshooting.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Installs, configures, migrates and operates physical and virtual servers.
  • Troubleshoots hardware and operating systems, and perform repairs on faulty system/server hardware.
  • Documents problems and resolutions, prioritize problems, and assess impact of issues.
  • Manages systems backups and restores operations for applications, databases, servers, file shares and Microsoft 365 mailboxes.
  • Implements appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and fail-over procedures.
  • Manages Microsoft Active Directory (AD), Group Policy Objects (GPO) and network-related services.
  • Administers and maintains end-user access rights to file shares and applications.
  • Monitors server, storage capacity and performance both on-premises and in the Cloud.
  • Diagnoses and resolves operating system and other server software problems, on both physical and virtual servers.
  • Reviews and participates in disaster recovery exercise and makes recommendations.
  • Maintains baseline system security according to organizational policies.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in computer science, systems engineering, or a related field plus five (5) years of experience in Windows systems administration.

Knowledge of Office 365 and related technologies such as Active Directory, Azure, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, and OneDrive for Business and experience in Virtualization and cloud computing systems, which includes installing, configuring and maintaining Hyper-V hosts, virtual machines in cluster environment or in the cloud, creating and updating golden images, create and provision pooled desktop virtual machines is required.

This job is being filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive Federal civil service.

Please note there is a mandatory one year probationary period for all non-judicial new employees.
