Help
  • Ensures airtanker base ramp operations are conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Compiles and shares data, using Microsoft Office and other software programs, for daily summaries such as retardant use for the day, aircraft in/out for the day and reports.
  • Performs administrative work, such as documentation, which includes the daily activity log, data entry and querying reports, answering phones, and utilizing base radios.
  • Performs as functional leader in various aviation, ground support, and logistical activities related to airtanker and retardant base operations and all other fixed wing operations that may be used at designated base.

  • This position requires regular and recurring overtime and shift work during peak fire season.
  • May require completion of a one year probationary period.
  • Applicants appointed to this position must POSSESS and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • May require that you pass a pre-employment physical.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirements:
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement(s); please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-04) of the position to be filled. Examples include, but are not limited to: experience with safety operations at a Airtanker Base, talking to aircraft over the radio or through radio headsets; consolidating and inputting data using computer programs; and assisting with recording and maintaining retardant and aircraft logs.


Substitution of Education for Experience:
4 years of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a directly related field or 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those show above. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable; OR an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: This position involves frequent movement and interactions requiring muscular coordination, good vision, good hearing, reaction reflexes, and mental alertness. Frequent standing and walking and long periods outside in high temperature and direct sunlight may be required.

Work Environment: Majority of activities are performed in an airbase environment, both indoors and outdoors. Extreme variations in temperature and climate conditions are common.
