This vacancy is for a Summer 2024 internship. 

While the duties of the Student Trainee (Auditing/Accounting), may vary depending on office placement, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • In the Office of Enforcement: Applying generally accepted accounting principles to financial filings made by energy companies to solve energy market and financial issues, drafting work papers and summary reports to highlight accounting issues, performing a variety of research and spreadsheet analysis in response to problem areas identified in filings made by energy companies, and participating in meetings to discuss specific project concerns or process improvements.
  • In the Office of the Executive Director: Running financial system reports, analyzing accounting data, reconciling accounting tie points, and creating accounting entries within the PeopleSoft Financial system, assisting in preparation of Annual Charge calculations, annual billings and collections, and reconciling dat, preparing financial statements and the Agency Financial Report, and preparing audit items for interim audit reporting

Qualifications

Eligibility: In order to be eligible for our Internship Program, you must:

  • Be accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution on a half- to full-time basis (as determined by the educational institution); AND
  • Meet the definition of a student throughout the duration of your appointment; AND
  • Meet the qualification standards (e.g., series and grade).

You can qualify based on your education, OR one full year of general experience. General experience is described as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.

Preference will be given to students who are in accounting degree programs. 

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
