Duties

Help
  • Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders in maintenance of installation facilities.
  • Apply methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, replace and modify a wide variety of workorder request for installation structures and grounds.
  • Complete masonry repairs to spread mortar, set brick and block, and finish mortar joints.
  • Apply paint coating materials to surfaces to meet match, texture, decorative, thickness, and level requirements.
  • Plan and lay out the installation and modification of various plumbing systems and equipment using accepted trade methods and techniques.
  • Apply techniques for variety of protective coverings to roof surfaces, including different types of shingles, gravel, and other coverings.
  • Operate various equipment used in trades, such as, tractors, mowers, skid steers, backhoes, forklifts, railroad repair equipment.
  • Maintain, repair and replace light fixtures, outlets, switches under 240 volts.

  • Incumbent may be required, if qualified, to participate in the Chemical Incident or Mishap Response and Assistance (CIMRA) situations and serve on teams dedicated to mitigating CIMRA situations after being trained for particular duty involved.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing during employment.
  • This position requires a pre-employment and annual physical which includes lifting up to 50 pounds for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the employee to use Personal Protective Equipment provided by the employer, such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat and safety shoes are required.
  • This position requires possession of or able to obtain and maintain a valid, State-issued motor vehicle driver license and any installation and/or DoD requirement for the type vehicle being operated.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

Qualifications

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an MAINTENANCE MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform tasks of a Maintenance Mechanic; including operate equipment, make adjustments, and follow complex written and verbal instructions for welding, plumbing, carpentry work, painting and facility maintenance. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision
  • Physical Effort: The incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms. The incumbent works in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods and frequently stands, stoops, bends, kneels, stretches and crouches while performing assignments. Work involves pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, equipment and tools. The incumbent frequently lifts parts and equipment that weighs up to 20 pounds, occasionally may lift and carry items that weigh 50 pounds, and often lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists and cranes.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed inside on hard, damp floors where incumbent is exposed to dirt, dust, grease, heat, exhaust fumes, noise, changing temperatures and drafts. The incumbent must frequently stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time. Work is also performed outside where the incumbent is exposed to bad weather, mud, snow and changing temperatures. Both inside and outside the incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, broken bones, shocks, infections, burns, strains, sprains, or irritations to the skin. The incumbent follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective car devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators and protective clothing.
