Duties

Help
  • You will participate in controlling and extinguishing fires by operating a hose, ladder, hydrant and/or rescuing endangered people.
  • You will respond as a member of a Hazardous Material Response Team to contain and control a hazardous material spill or discharge.
  • You will perform pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with layouts and locations of fire hazards and locations of fixed fire protection systems.
  • You will maintain fire station and related equipment in good condition.
  • You will extricate trapped victims and administer all possible emergency care and protection prior to removal.
  • You will verify and monitor victim’s vital signs i.e., pulse, blood pressure, body temperature, respiration, etc.

  • This is a Bargaining Unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AWARENESS certification and a HAZARDOUS MATERIALS OPERATIONS certification.
  • The position often requires irregular hours, rotating shift work, evening and weekend work and is subject to nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) certification.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN certification.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - BASIC (NREMT or STATE) certification.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current FIREFIGHTER II certification.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing emergency medical treatment to include, but not limited to, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and rescue of patients in confined spaces and auto extrications. Also performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures; and structural firefighting; and responding to hazardous material emergency operations.

Additional information

This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Work schedule consists of 72 hours per week/144 hours per pay period (firefighter hours differ, not all are 72 hours per week).

Employee may be recalled to duty outside normal working hours.

Employee must participate in the mandatory physical fitness program.

This position requires which requires a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for this position. I am willing and able to submit to a SCHR check.

You will attend training classes to meet GA Basic EMT and National Registry EMT requirements of IV's and Combi Tube.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
