Duties

Help

As a Data Entry Clerk, you will:

  • Collect and receive bills of lading from a variety of sources and enter them into the Cargo Preference Overview System (CAPOS) database.
  • Maintain and review U.S. civilian government agencies and Department of Defense compliance figures for use in data reports.
  • Prepare and distribute reports in response to internal and external queries concerning cargo preference statistical data at the direction of the Supervisory Trade Specialist.
  • Edit and analyze reports for errors prior to release and make necessary corrections, based on the knowledge of each data source and relevant program.
  • Maintain contact with data sources to assure timely gathering of data.

This position is established to receive high volumes of bills of lading from civilian and defense agencies and timely enter data from these bills of lading into the Cargo Preference Overview System (CAPOS) database. In addition, the employee is responsible for reporting to the Lead Trade Specialist, any information missing from the bills of lading.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.
  • PROBATIONARY PERIOD: You must complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).
  • TIME-IN-GRADE: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade in the competitive or excepted service in the executive branch to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
  • DEU REQUIREMENTS: Applicants selected under delegated examining procedures may be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications.

To qualify for GS-06: You must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the work performed at the GS-5 grade level or equivalent. The specialized experience must include:

  • Experience collecting and entering data from contracts, reports, or files into a database (i.e., .NET-based systems).
  • Experience assisting in organizing and generating data reports, figures, and statistical tables.
  • Experience reviewing and maintaining databases for accuracy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Clerical - Knowledge of filing, typing, entering data, maintaining records, taking shorthand, and using and completing forms.
  • Manages and Organizes Information - Identifies a need; gathers, organizes, and maintains information; determines its importance and accuracy, and communicates it by a variety of methods.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TELEWORK ELIGIBILITY: Telework availability will be based upon the mission requirements and supervisory determination.  If approved for occasional telework, you will be required to report to the office on a regular basis. The number of telework days approved is determined by the agency policy, emergency situations, the approval of your immediate supervisor, and if applicable, approval of additional officials.

The agency has the option of extending a term appointment up to the 1-year limit.
