Duties

Help
  • Operate various makes, types, and sizes of container handling equipment, capable of lifting up to 99,000 pounds as high as 48 feet, to perform the loading, unloading, moving, or lifting of heavy containers.
  • Load, unload, lift, and move MILVAN containers loaded with ammunition, explosives, and components (including guided missiles, bombs, high explosives, and ammunition components.
  • Operate a gasoline or diesel-powered truck tractor with semi-trailer, Strad-O-Lift trailer to haul high explosives, munitions, and components as well as inert items (small arms, pallets, boxes, empty projectiles, salvage metal, etc.)
  • Handle material such as high explosives, ammunition components, guided missiles, rockets, etc.
  • Load and unload cargo. Segregate items according to condition codes, lot number, quantity, etc.
  • Store stack, and palletize items.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within 6 months.
  • Subject to random drug testing requirements.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Must meet the requirements of AMCR 350-4, Training and Certification program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations.
  • Must be cleared IAW requirements of Physical Security of Arms Ammunition and Explosives (AA and E).
  • Must successfully complete training in hazardous waste management procedures within six (6) months after the date of appointment to this position and will not work in unsupervised situations until these training requirements have been met.
  • Position requires a secret security clearance.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Container Handler Operator (MVO) without more than normal supervision. Operation of a diesel-powered truck tractor with semi-trailer, and Strad-O-Lift trailer to haul high explosives, munitions, and components. Operated a forklift or non-motorized material handling equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Worker is subject to continuous physical strain from simultaneously manipulating many levers and controls; from lifting and handling heavy containers, from vibrations caused by the container handler; and from jerking and jolting motions while lifting and moving loads. Work involves continuous climbing, reaching, bending, and twisting of body. Requires lifting, positioning, and carrying items up to 45 pounds while loading or unloading cargo. May occasionally lift heavier items with assistance. Moderate physical effort is required to make truck-tractor and semi-trailer connections. There is continuous physical activity in reaching, bending, turning, or moving feet and legs to manipulate controls. Subject to cuts, scratches, and bruises from loading or unloading vehicles. Subject to possible serious injury resulting from traffic accidents. Is required to work on concrete floors. Work is performed where there is unpleasant dust, dirt, fumes, and noise from truck operations. May wear masks, gloves, goggles, and rubber books as appropriate.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Equipment is operated outside during periods of extreme heat and cold from a cab that is enclosed. Operator is subject to noise, dirt, dust, and fumes; and is exposed to danger from moving machinery and the overturning of the container handler. Accomplishment of duties requires the wearing of protective clothing such as safety shoes, glasses, coveralls, etc. There is a chance of injuries ranging from loss of life to burns, cuts, bruises, strains, and nausea.
