  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain the Associate Level and Journeyman level CET certification per Electronics Technicians Association, International, within two (2) years of placement into the position.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work and overtime to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): I have the ability to perform common test, troubleshoot, repair and overhaul on complex electronic equipment and systems. I can install a variety of major components and related devices of complex electronics equipment. I also provide technical assistance and advice to individuals or groups of lower level workers. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Physical Efforts: Incumbent frequently lifts, carries, or otherwise handles items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, items greater than 40 pounds are handled, but assistance is usually available. Work is performed in a sitting position for extended periods, and frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping is required.

Working Conditions: Works inside well-lighted, heated, and ventilated shop area and in outside work areas, usually in good weather conditions. Exposed to possibility of various burns caused by electrical shock, RF energy, hot components, and to microwave radiation. Subject to cuts, bruises, and scrapes from handling equipment. Travels as senior mechanic to repair and/or install equipment systems serviced.
