Duties

Help

This position's primary purpose is to perform aircraft electronics mechanic journeyman level duties.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include:

  • Analyzing problems and determines nature and extent of repairs, alignment or adjustment required for complete systems as well as individual equipment and subsystems.
  • Determining work sequence and selecting tools and test instruments such as VOM, VTVM, oscilloscope, signal generator or specialized test equipment necessary to perform properly the required checks and adjustments.
  • Disassembling and reassembling equipment as required to effect necessary cleaning, lubrication, corrosion prevention, and repairs.
  • Performing complete operational tests to assure that all components and systems are working within prescribed tolerances.
  • Initiating action to procure necessary replacement parts and completing applicable paperwork when necessary.
  • Troubleshooting complex electronic systems.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. This includes Time-In-Grade requirements for current status employees applying through merit promotion procedures. Status applicants applying for a promotion must have 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: 


1. Ability to perform the work of Electronics Mechanic without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT).
2. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
3. Use of Test Equipment : Electronics.
4. Theory of Electronics.
5. Troubleshooting (Aviation Electronic Equipment).
6. Ability to Use Hand and Power Tools - Electronics.
7. Ingenuity (Ability to suggest and apply new methods).
