Duties

Help
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving taking care of stray animals, hospitalized animals and/or animals quarantined as rabies suspects. Cleans animal cages, runs and kennel rooms on a daily basis or as directed.
  • Disinfects cage or run after discharge or animal or release of confined animals. Cleans and sanitizes all feed and water pans daily or after use and removes all extraneous materials from kennels and adjacent grounds daily.
  • Feeds and provides fresh water for all confined animals daily and/or as directed; protects animals from extreme weather conditions and from other animals; provides security at all times to prevent animals from escaping.
  • Observes all animals confined daily for all signs of illness, insect infestation, loss of weight or abnormal behavior and reports conditions noted to supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.

  • Satisfactory completion of physical examination.

Qualifications

Knowledge of normal appearance and activities of animals to be able to recognize such characteristics as excessive loss of fur,
pregnancy, indicators of fighting, illness, disease, and refusal to feed. Knowledge of normal feed and liquid requirements, different
types of feed, and the ability to adjust amounts of feed for different animals. Ability to identify animals by tattoos, tags, or other
markers. Skill in handling vicious animals. Ability to lift and carry weights up to 75 pounds. Ability to stand and/or walk for
extended periods of time.
