Duties

Help

  • Periodically operates a mobile equipment service truck exceeding 32,000 pounds with loads.
  • Operates a variety of automatic/manual diesel and gasoline powered equipment to include generators, wheeled/track vehicles, and semi-trailer combinations up to 70 ton capacity.
  • Operates various types of forklifts ranging from 2,000 to 50,000 pound capacity on rough terrain, and unloading, warehousing and preparing equipment and supplies for transport.
  • Prepares accountability documents and warehouse reports and reviews and updates written equipment service logs.
  • Refuels tractors and heavy equipment and drains residue and waste from fuel tanks.
  • Assists in making repairs and adjustments to equipment through maintenance checks and repairs services.
  • Performs operator maintenance to include servicing vehicle braking systems, and checking vehicle lights.

  • You will be subjected to strenuous work, and adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  • You must be able to sustain periods of substantial walking, bending, stooping, standing, crouching, stretching, and reaching.

Minimum Qualification Requirement - To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, your resume must demonstrate enough experience to show your ability to perform the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator (Open Until Filled) without more than normal supervision. Examples of such experience include: Operating gasoline or diesel powered motor vehicles with a gross weight over 32,000 over public roadways, within field offices sites, and on levee roads; performing tractor and engineering equipment maintenance and field repair tasks to include checking fluid levels, tire pressure; operating tractor-trailer combinations, such as loading, arranging, and securing cargo; applying Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) regulations, principles and practices; ability to do the work of the position without more than Normal Supervision; Ability to drive safely; ability to interpret instructions, specifications related to mobile equipment operation.

Physical Effort Required: Unassisted heavy lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 45 pounds; lifting and carrying of items weighing over 45 pounds typically with the assistance of others or by using equipment such as carts, hand trucks, and dollies; recurring walking, standing, stooping, bending, and kneeling to work in cramped or hard-to-reach places; using legs and arms to climb ladders, scaffolds, and large equipment; reaching above shoulders; engaging in rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously to operate multiple vehicle controls; using near and far vision and depth perception to read instructions, monitor gauges, and operate mobile equipment; hearing to monitor equipment operation and voice communication; and adjusting to considerable strain caused by constant vibration of equipment and continual jerking and jolting from operating mobile equipment over rough surfaces.
Working Conditions: Subjected to working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and in geographically remote areas alone or as part of a work crew; exposure to drafts, changing temperatures, dirt, dust, grease, solvents, chemical fumes, noise, heights, slippery and uneven surfaces, and open waterways; constant noise from equipment; and subject to abrasions, cuts, bruises, strains, broken bones, insect bites, and other injuries; Follows established safety procedures and practices to avoid injury and possible hazards in the work area; and uses personal protective clothing, equipment, and safety gear such as life vest, safety shoes, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, and gloves.
