Duties

Help
  • Lead a multi-dimensional team of data scientists in the development of new or improved data science methods, techniques, principles, and concepts.
  • Lead the analytical study efforts for teams of analysts, all engaged in the conduct of data science and cost, economic, and business transformation analyses of current, evolving, or proposed DOD and Army Enterprise Information Systems initiatives.
  • Assign tasks based on the expertise and capability of work force in planning, evaluating, documenting, and defending the technology program of the Center.
  • Plan and accomplish delivery of data science tools of considerable difficulty and complexity, which require the formulation and development of new techniques and methods.
  • Represent the command on a variety of liaison, advisory, and consulting assignments with key technical and management personnel on current and emerging data science, operations research, cost/economic analysis, and Big Data transformation.
  • Provide leadership and the analytical study direction to Operations Research Analysts and Computer Scientists/Engineers.
  • Conduct analyses on very large scale, complex, and controversial programs which involve alternative courses of actions which have political and economic sensitivity
  • Assist the Director in managing the implementation of the Command's Data Science Program, with primary focus on identifying where data science can benefit the command.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education AND experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Data Scientist:

Education Requirement:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

At least one year of specialized experience which includes leading multi-disciplined technical teams providing complex analytical products or services; conducting research, tests, and/or studies using quantitative and computational methods; operating coding systems (for example Python, R, Scala, Java, Julia, OR C++); using high performance, parallel,or distributed computing for example (Apache Spark/Flink, Cuda, or Hadoop) OR cloud-based computing platforms (for example AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure); creating,deploying, testing, and evaluating with either predictive models OR machine learning algorithms such as regression, clustering, probabilistic, or ensemble methods.
