Duties

Help

If selected for this position, you will be responsible for the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Administering information technology (IT) principles, methods, and security products to protect and maintain the availability, integrity, confidentiality, and accountability of information system resources.
  • Managing agency's network drives and ability of employees to access remotely.
  • Providing basic advice and guidance on a various IT issues, such as those involving technical or functional requirements, hardware or software configurations, interconnectivity, installation or implementation issues, and administrative matters.
  • Providing customers technical and administrative assistance, troubleshoot IT problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

IT Basic Requirements:

You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess the Information Technology related education below:


A. Have successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree at an accredited college or university in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Note: You must submit your college transcripts to support your educational claims.

OR

You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you have Information Technology-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies:

  • Attention to Detail - Monitoring network performance.
  • Customer Service - Assisting customers by trouble shooting IT problems;
  • Oral Communication - Communicating the importance of cybersecurity to stakeholders; and
  • Problem Solving - Assisting in identifying cybersecurity problem areas.
AND

Specialized Experience:


You must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:
  • Monitoring network systems for suspicious activity;
  • Analyzing program procedures to ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies; and
  • Maintaining hardware and/or software inventory to advise management on upgrades or maintenance needed.

Education

All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools that meet these criteria, see www.ed.gov.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
