Duties

Help

  • Applies knowledge of fitness techniques and programs to provide a variety of ongoing fitness programs and instructions such as introduction to fitness lifestyle changes, basic muscular toning, circuit training, aerobic conditioning training, etc. for purpose of providing patrons with a broader understanding and application of fitness, skills and abilities.
  • Assists in designing individualized exercise programs for patrons based on their goals or current fitness status by performing fitness profile testing (Aerobic capacity, blood pressure, heart rate and body composition).
  • Screens participant for cardiovascular risk factors prior to exercise via a comprehensive medical history and health habits questionnaire.
  • Enforces all rules and regulations of the fitness center.
  • Attends fitness meetings, workshops, and seminars presented by the Fitness Manager and other outside organizations. Incumbent must exercise tact, good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation
  • Must be able to obtain certifications in First Aid and CPR within the first 90 days of employment
  • Must be able to obtain forklift certification
  • The work requires frequent physical exertion such as but not limited to: walking considerable distances, lifting, carrying, moving and handling recreational supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Must possess a valid driver license and be physically able to operate a 15-passenger van for the purpose of transporting participants and/or recreational equipment on trips
  • Requires Safe Inflatable Operators Training Organization certification
  • Work hours may include weekends and holidays
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent

Qualifications

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs.

  • Must have a four-year undergraduate degree in Recreation or Leisure or related subject area and one year of professional experience OR three years of specialized recreation work experience equivalent to the next lower grade and an understanding of the interests of individuals or groups in a recreational setting
  • Knowledge of the principles of recreation.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, internal controls, cash management, fiscal oversight, and inventory systems.
  • Skill in planning and carrying out an enhanced program in the recreation specialty area which meets the needs of the participating eligible patrons.
  • Skill in common computer applications such as Microsoft Office or alike program applications to include word files, e-mails, spreadsheets, presentations, calendars and other information technology resources.
  • Skill in marketing and promoting sports, recreation and leisure activities.
  • Ability to deploy with ship during underway periods.
  • Ability to conduct recreation programs and leisure activities.
  • Ability to direct sporting activities.
  • Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations and/or training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Education

A four-year degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in Recreation Administration or Physical Education.

OR

A two-year degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Recreation Administration or Physical Education, AND two or more years of experience in conducting recreation programs and leisure activities AND experience in directing sports activities.

OR

Have 4 or more years of experience in conducting recreation programs and leisure activities AND experience in directing sports activities.

Additional information

Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearances. Employment subject to successful Access National Agency Check with Inquiries (ANACI). Must have or be eligible for secret security clearance.

Must be able to obtain and maintain specialized training related to the position, including completion of the CNIC Afloat Recreation Program Management Course (ARPM) within 90 days of hire.

Certification in first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is required within 90 days of hire and must be maintained throughout the course of employment.

This position is not telework eligible.

Some positions have special requirements. Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period. Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
