Summary

About the Position: Works under the general supervision of the section chief. Incumbent is relied upon to act as the archives authority with assignments discussed in terms of the broadly defined mission of the branch. Incumbent independently determines approaches and develops working plans as needed to accomplish objectives.

This position will allow for situational telework only. This position is NOT eligible for full-time telework.

Duties

Help
  • Serves as the Senior Archivist for District and MCX CMAC archaeology, cultural resources, and historic preservation related records, affecting a comprehensive program for the full utilization of these records enterprise wide.
  • Performs the original organization and modified cataloging of archival materials and archaeological associated documentation in appropriate formats and transferring information to local databases or authority files.
  • Creates work plans, budgets, and scopes of work.
  • Leads interdisciplinary teams of archivists, archaeologists, and anthropologists in conducting assessments of archives and archaeological collections for USACE, DoD and other Federal agencies using Branch protocols and standards.
  • Serves as Branch and Center liaison to all levels within the federal government regarding archives, cultural resources documentation, and integrated work products.
  • Interviews and interacts with customers to establish user needs and requirements.
  • Develops training materials and provides training to MCX CMAC customers, branch employees, and other federal agencies in archival practices, procedures and MCX CMAC archival protocols.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

GS-11 Grade Level:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the organization and/or cataloging of cultural resource records; maintaining artifacts and/or records using professional practices such as 36 CFR Part 79, the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), or 36 CFR Part 800; and researching available information resources, on-line computer databases, other libraries, or external subject resources. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: archeology, anthropology, or archival science.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.


GS-12 Grade Level:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes organizing and/or cataloging cultural resource records; overseeing the management of artifacts and/or records using professional practices such as 36 CFR Part 79, the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), or 36 CFR Part 800; and developing data bases and/or archival finding aids. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job at the GS-12, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education
