Duties

Help

As a Data Scientist, you will:

  • Study data, build analyses, synthesize insights, create presentations, and deliver practical and timely solutions to the Bureau's Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
  • Ensure the timely fusion of external data sources into the data holding and monitor the content for quality and compliance with the data governance framework.
  • Operate and manage application to collect, link, store, and report on planning data created by OCIITS stakeholders at various levels.
  • Research technologies and methodologies relating to IT Security and Data Science; research cybersecurity and data science technologies to initiate, apply and plan for deployment within BEP.
  • Lead data analytics projects that will seek to develop and measure key performance indicators for programs and projects related to protecting BEP's IT systems.

SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation will be required for all new hires. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience for the GS-14 is one year (52 weeks) of experience at the GS-13 level or equivalent, in the public sectors, that is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as:

  • Creating data visualization based on data models and algorithms; AND
  • Applying predictive modeling to optimize business outcomes; AND
  • Using data modeling tools to build and implement models and using or creating algorithms to gather data-based insights.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13level for 52 weeks.

Education

Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.

OTHER INFORMATION:

  • We may select from this announcement or any other source to fill one or more vacancies.

  • This is a remote position. Salary (locality) will be based upon residency location.
  • The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for workdays during the shutdown period.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
