Duties

Help
  • Assure proper maintenance of brushes and equipment.
  • Prepare surfaces, mixes paint, applies prime, intermediate and finish coats with brush, roller, or spray gun.
  • Follow written and oral instructions to accomplish painting assignments.
  • Paint a variety of surfaces such as interior and exterior of buildings, mobile and stationary equipment, fittings, furnishings, machinery, and other surfaces, where appearance as well as surface protection are important.
  • Use gloss, semi-gloss, and special paints, enamels, varnishes, stains, lacquers, and shellacs.
  • Match, tint, tone, and blend coating materials to desired color.
  • Determine protective gear to be worn for assignments to comply with safety precautions and regulations.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Business travel up to 50% of the time both CONUS and OCONUS.
  • Successfully complete and pass pre-employment and annual physicals.
  • Shift work and overtime may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays and weekends.
  • Obtain and maintain a government credit card for business travel.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an PAINTER without more than normal supervision and to perform common Painter tasks to include preparing surfaces for paint by removing paint, rust, and surface imperfections by hand sanding, using a wire brush, spackling, or applying putty; and following a standard of work to ensure desired end product is achieved. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

  • Physical Efforts: Work requires continuous movement of hands and arms, reaching, bending, and lifting materials up to 10 pounds. The painter may be required to coat surfaces in cramped and hard to reach places. Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally, may handle materials and equipment that weigh 40 pounds or more.
  • Working Conditions: Work is normally performed inside well-lighted, heated and ventilated shop areas. Some outside work is required. Subject to noise, dust, and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. Painter may be required to wear safety devices and clothing such as aprons, respirator, gloves, and safety glasses.
