Summary

This position provides motor vehicle transportation for the AVAHCS Laundry Distribution Center.

Help

Major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Operate a motor vehicle (truck) with gross weight of 21,500 lbs. or vehicle less than 26,001 lbs. gross vehicle weight restriction, which is equipped with hydraulic loading and gate device.
  • Follow established distribution, collection, and routes when collecting and delivering textiles, soiled textiles, and clean textiles.
  • Load and unload linen carts, hampers, bagged textiles, patient clothing, uniform racks, uniforms and delivery to all using various delivery tools such as hand trucks, pallet jack, motorized pallet jack, carts, wheel linen carts, and hand carrying textiles.
  • Sanitize the assigned motorized vehicle by following established sanitation procedures after each soil sort collection.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Loads, unloads, and maneuvers wheeled laundry carts weighing from 1-800 pounds; lifts linen bags weighing 1-75 lbs.; drives a motor vehicle on station or on the public roadway and high way systems; carries documentation whenever driving assigned vehicle; maintains endorsements such as Chauffeurs and or CDL licensing requirements, meeting standards of Federal and State Law, valid license and maintaining training in accordance with endorsement; steers, brakes, maneuvers, backs up, stops, looks, listens, and operates a motor vehicle; stands, bends, crouches, pushes, pulls, and lifts heavy items during loading and
unloading of truck. Must have the physical and fitness qualification required for a vehicle operator permit (State of Louisiana). Work is performed inside and outside and includes being exposed to severe weather when loading and unloading. On the road on or off station this position is exposed to traffic hazards which require maneuvering situations. May occasionally come in contact with infectious material or textiles. May be exposed to lubricants, fuel, oil, and coolants when performing preventive and safety inspection of motor vehicle. Must understand and be familiar with the use of materials and material data safety sheets.
