This position is located at the WAATS in Marana, Arizona. The purpose of this position is to act as the Aircraft Mechanic (Crew Chief) with responsibility for managing the operational readiness of one or more aircraft, and proficiency training of supported aviation unit personnel. Responsibilities include detailed technical oversight of individual aircraft's level of mission capabilities and projection of maintenance requirements to maintain individual aircraft operational readiness.

  • ARIZONA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Army National Guard, in a military organization supported by the WAATS.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Irregular (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • NOTE: Recruitment, Relocation, or Retention Incentive may be offered and is subject to availability of funds.

Qualifications

Military Grades: SSG/E-6 to SFC/E-7

Compatible Military Assignments: Must possess MOS 15F, 15G, 15H, 15D, 15B, 15K, 15L, 15N or 15Y

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least 24 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):

1. Skilled in managing, monitoring or performing overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft.

2. Ability to ensure Unit Level Logistics-Aviation (ULLS-A) and other aircraft documentation accurately reflects status and airworthiness of assigned aircraft.

3. Knowledge in clearing Red X status symbols on aircraft forms for work performed by others.

4. Ability to plan, develop and conduct proficiency training during the technician work week to a multifaceted workforce comprised of Full Time Support (FTS) and supported unit personnel.

5. Ability to prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and support exercises.
