Basic Requirement for GS-09 Librarian:
A. Completed one full academic year of graduate study in Library Science in an accredited college or university and completed all work required for a bachelor's degree.
-OR-
B. Have a total of at least five years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, you must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship, a knowledge of literature resources, and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
-AND-
In addition to the basic requirements above, you must meet the following:
Minimum Qualification for GS-09 Librarian:
A. Three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of which was equivalent to the GS-07 level, that demonstrates the ability to (1) Assist with the maintenance of an organization or agency's library collection; (2) Perform literature searches and select, obtain, and assemble materials based on specific requests; and (3) Assist with subscribing to online databases and work with data processing specialist to obtain appropriate hardware and software;
-OR-
B. Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D., related to this position.

GRADUATE EDUCATION:

If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
