Duties

Help
  • Screens calls and visitors.
  • Operates one or more types of office automation hardware systems and software packages to perform word processing, database management, electronic mail and/or calendar, and other automated functions.
  • Makes arrangements for meetings between Deputies and external entities.
  • Assumes duties and responsibilities of the Commander?s Secretary in her absence.
  • Screens all incoming correspondence.
  • Plans, organizes and executes office administrative functions by providing a full range support services.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Experience required for the GS-06: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: receiving or screening telephone calls, maintaining calendars, screening correspondence to ensure proper disposition. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Experience required for the GS-07: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: maintaining calendars, scheduling appointments, and reviewing or processing reports or documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Qualified Typist Requirement: In addition to meeting the experience or education requirements, for all positions titled as Office Automation or any clerical positions which has parenthetical title of Office Automation (OA), applicants must have typing proficiency of 40 words per minute (wpm).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
