Duties

Help

The Supervisory Engineering Technician will supervise and direct the work of nine Engineering technicians responsible for predictive technologies and developing condition-based maintenance techniques and procedures.

In this position, you will:

  • Provides overall technical and administrative management and direction for approximately nine engineering technicians. 
  • Plans and carries out the full range of supervisory and managerial authorities related to assignment of work, setting priorities, coordination with other programs, management advisory services, technical work  direction, setting performance standards and evaluating subordinates, advising subordinates on work and administrative matters, making selections for non-supervisory positions, resolution of complaints, effecting minor, disciplinary actions, identifying training needs, recommending awards, and determining means to improve productivity of the staff.
  • Develops guidelines and procedures for the capture and analysis of critical asset/system information necessary to develop processes that improve asset management throughout the asset or systems life cycle and improve reliability.
  • Provides technical maintenance, engineering assistance and advice to SI staff and/or private contractors, including review of 410 submittals, estimates, market analysis, drawings, system capabilities, capacities and studies.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as creating maintenance plans for HVAC systems and electrical/mechanical systems in museums or historical buildings; resolve technical conflicting data; leading a team of engineering technicians.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

  3. Ability to analyze, evaluate, and report on operations of complex mechanical and electrical systems.
  4. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally to convey technical and non-technical maintenance information, conduct briefings and presentations to a wide range of individuals and organizations.
  5. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing, to a wide range of individuals and organizations (i.e., memos, reports and emails).

Best Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and excels in most of the job-related competencies above.

Better Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and satisfies most of the job-related competencies above.

Good Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements but does not satisfy most of the job-related competencies above to a substantive degree.
