This position is located in AmeriCorps VISTA, Department of the Chief of Program Operations in Washington, DC.

Duties

Help

The Senior Communications Specialist will perform all, but not limited to the following duties:

  • Works with the Marketing, Outreach, and Recruitment Manager to develop effective overall program communication strategies for both internal and external audiences.
  • Drafts and edits a range of high-quality written content for newsletters, updates, email campaigns, program website, talking points, etc. for internal and external communications.
  • Formulates and recommends strategic direction to address communication issues, initiatives, and ideas that are identified, directed, collected, or anticipated for the AmeriCorps VISTA program.
  • Coordinate cross-functional campaigns and communications projects with relevant departments in the agency.
  • Manages and communicates analytics for email marketing activities and works with the Manager to mitigate challenges and inform AmeriCorps VISTA leadership of both challenges and successes.
  • Applies expert knowledge of strategic communication, public affairs, and/or related media program support in order to interpret and apply to AmeriCorps VISTA program's strategic communication for marketing initiatives.
  • Applies expert knowledge and skill in the analysis of current and projected communications and outreach program initiatives to evaluate their actual or potential effectiveness in achieving successful execution of marketing, outreach and communication and media projects.
  • Applies expert knowledge of email marketing using software platforms in the development of communications and media products.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the upper range of the NY-2 pay band, which would be at or equivalent to, the GS-9 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes:

  • Copywriting, proofreading, and editing.
  • Email marketing using software platforms.
  • Project Management Principles.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps VISTA) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume.

Education

This job does not have an education qualification requirement; education may be substituted for Specialized Experience at this grade level. If you are qualifying on education alone, you must have either of the following:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
