Summary

This position is located within the Office of the Director, Training Branch, Multi-Door Dispute Resolution Division of the District of Columbia Superior Court. The incumbent provides support to the mediation training program by assisting with development of continuing education, coordinating the volunteer and mediator term renewal and peer review process, conducting outreach to increase awareness of the divisions’ mediation programs and recruiting new mediators.

Duties

Brief Description of Major Duties:

  • Assists with the development and presentation of continuing education and basic training for mediators. Tracks program participation and disseminates program recordings through online training library.
  • Assists in managing volunteers and mediators including monitoring continuing education requirements and coordinating the term renewal and peer review process. Collects and maintains volunteer and mediator applications, and drafts and revises training manuals and other materials.
  • Makes recommendations and participates in training and mentoring. Assists with scheduling evaluations and trainings for neutrals, interns, and staff. Provides observational feedback for mediator term renewal.
  • Stays abreast of new technologies to provide administrative and
    logistical support for all program formats. Assists with live and virtual education programs including technical arrangements, securing appropriate technical support, and coordinating with faculty and participants.
  • Schedules and supports virtual education events using appropriate technology including, but not limited to, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and WebEx. Coordinates with staff and faculty regarding virtual education event materials including, but not limited to, videos, slides, and documents
  • Manages and publishes the division newsletter annually, including the solicitation, writing, design, layout and editing of articles.
  • Recruits interns and externs to assist with projects developed in conjunction with program staff and manages day-to-day activities of projects.
  • Plans and hosts division events including, but not limited to, Mediation Week and Mediator Appreciation events.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED plus six (6) years of administrative experience in a court or legal environment of which includes one (1) year of alternative dispute resolution/conflict resolution experience. Experience can be part-professional and or/volunteer dispute resolution experience.

Education Substitution:

A bachelor's degree in a related field plus two (2) years of administrative experience in a court or legal environment of which includes one (1) year of alternative dispute resolution/conflict resolution experience. Experience can be part-professional and or/volunteer dispute resolution experience. 

A master's degree in a related field plus one (1) year of alternative dispute resolution/conflict resolution experience. Experience can be part-professional and or/volunteer dispute resolution experience. 

Preferred Qualification:

  • Completion of basic mediation training.
  • Two (2) years of experiences as a family, civil or community mediator.
  • Two (2) years of experience in developing and conducting trainings/and or presentations.
