Summary

About the Position: Supervisory Security Guard, plans and assigns work through subordinate supervisors. Directs the work of an organizational unit engaged in providing protective security and physical security services to Fort Belvoir.

This position is restricted to persons entitled to Veterans Preference. If there are no Veterans Preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.

Duties

Help
  • Serves as a Supervisory Security Guard (Captain of the Guard) assigned under the authority of the Senior Command at IMCOM
  • Safeguarding government personnel, property and technologies against unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage and destruction.
  • Assigns work in terms of organizational objectives and special assignments, set priorities, and deadlines.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security.
  • Must submit to a pre-employment physical and maintain a level of physical fitness.

  • This position has been designated as Mission Essential; in the event of severe weather conditions that result in the installation being closed for normal business operations, you are still required to report for or remain on duty.
  • The position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position requires shift work and rotating shifts.
  • This position requires overtime work.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid Driver's License.
  • This position has a requirement to carry a firearm and remain proficient in the use of assigned weapon.
  • This position requires certification in CPR.
  • This position requires the incumbent to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position requires completion of a supervisory probationary period.
  • This position is subject to the requirements of the individual Reliability Program (IRP), in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • This position requires successful completion of security guard training.
  • May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • This position requires working both inside and outside, with possible exposure to inclement weather.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • This position requires Security Response Capability Training for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes planning and coordinating the activities of shifts for the security guard force, through subordinate supervisors. Enforces personnel identification and control system. Develops training courses based on regulatory requirements. Maintains liaison with local, federal, state, county and city law enforcement authorities. Performs managerial and administrative duties relating to the security guard force. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08)
