This position is located within Commander Navy Region Northwest, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Division, Naval Base Kitsap. The incumbent is responsible for the management, supervision, design, administration, operation and technical direction of a comprehensive fitness program and its fitness spaces.

Duties

Help

  • Develops, implements, evaluates and continually modifies all components of a comprehensive fitness and health promotion program
  • Participates in national meetings and conferences within the field to obtain the latest information and research
  • Assists CNIC, MWR Fitness Division with input and guidance for development and modification of Navy command physical conditioning and MWR fitness policies
  • Develops and monitors the execution of the annual NAF operating budget
  • Establishes and maintains accurate property control systems in accordance with higher directives
  • Promotes the use of the fitness programs and facilities for maximum participation on an ongoing basis serving a large community

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation
  • Work requires standing, sitting, walking and at times lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work a schedule that meets the needs of the program

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Exercise Physiology, Physical Education or Fitness/Nutrition services is desirable OR 3 years' experience in a large fitness facility
  • Current fitness certification from an accredited certifying health and fitness organization
  • CPR and AED and first aid certifications or be able to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • Three years' experience designing and implementing fitness and health promotion programs and operating multi-site facilities and program/staff
  • Minimum two years' experience conducting graded exercise test on stationary bike/treadmill
  • Certified as a Navy Exercise Leader
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing and give presentations to individuals and groups regarding fitness and lifestyle modifications
  • Experience developing and managing a large scale budget
  • Ability to maintain reports and records and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Proficient in the use of computer and the following applications: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel and with training other related software

Education

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Exercise Physiology, Physical Education or Fitness/Nutrition services is desirable OR 3 years' experience in a large fitness facility
