This position is with the Office of Inspector General,CONTRACT AND GRANT AUDIT DIVISION in Herndon, Virginia. This office is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and conducting audits, inspections, and evaluations relating to Department of the Interior (DOI) programs and operations, including, but not limited to, waste, abuse, and mismanagement in such programs and operations of the DOI employees, contractors, grantees, lessees, or any other persons or entities doing business with the DOI.
As a Auditor (Performance) you will be responsible for leading, planning, and performing complex audits, inspections, and evaluations of DOI programs and operations.
Major duties include:
Plans, performs, or leads others in complex projects, analytical studies, and evaluations of major programs and operations for efficiency and effectiveness in meeting their intended objectives. This includes thoroughly studying and assessing all related policies, activities, procedures, resources, and systems that may intersect different functional areas.
Develops assignment plans, procedures, and methodology and assigns tasks to team members.
Determines the relative significance of conclusion reached and assures that work performed, evidence collected, and methodology used sufficiently support conclusions reached based on best practices or other rationales that contribute to positive program results.
Develops practical recommendations for corrective action and improvements.
Prepares written reports and briefing materials designed to resolve operational problems and achieve maximum effectiveness and efficiency in programs under review.
Synthesizes final reports to include material submitted by team members according to established guidelines.
Briefs internal management orally and in writing on the work performed.
Leads meetings with DOI officials of all levels to explain audit results, the significance of conclusions, and recommendations.
Successful completion of a background investigation.
May be required to complete a one year probationary period.
Time-in-grade requirement - Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.

Qualifications

Advising others on issues encountered in an audit;
Writing, editing, and reviewing audit reports or work papers/reference documents; AND
Briefing management officials on work performed and findings.
Education

Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field (please see below list for related field degrees) such as business administration, finance, public administration, or accounting.

Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge.
