  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Employee must successfully pass an initial, annual, or any required OPM, DoD, or Department of the Navy mental and emotional stability screening, physical agility test, and physical fitness for duty test.
  • Incumbent must be able to read, write and speak English. Must meet OPM hearing and vision requirements to include distinguishing basic shades of color.
  • Must maintain the applicable weapons qualification standards at the assigned installation. Must meet applicable federal and/or state minimum age requirements for the assigned installation.
  • Employees are subjected to a pre-employment background check and ongoing background checks to affirm employability as a Police Officer.
  • The incumbent must carry firearms and maintain proficiency in the use of assigned equipment. You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • Employee is required to wear an assigned uniform and display official designated items or accessories to include?additional required equipment. The employee must follow and adhere to applicable grooming standards for the installation.

Qualifications

GS-0083-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at/or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Issuing citations for violations of the law; 2) Preparing reports and orders for dissemination to other law enforcement officials; and 3) Protecting property, equipment, data, or materials.

GS-0083-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at/or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Issuing citations in violation of law enforcement regulations; 2) Conducting investigations related to critical incidents (i.e., traffic accidents, domestic violence, assaults, child abuse/neglect) in accordance to policies and procedures; 3) Interviewing witnesses to gather information about incidents; and 4) Conducts inspections of vehicles to detect the unauthorized removal of classified material, government property, contraband, weapons, explosives or any items detrimental to security.

Agreement to Continue in Service with Agency (CSA) requires 3 years of continued employment after the completion of required training for FLETC in accordance with Title 5 USC 4108 and 5 CFR 410.309. Failure to voluntarily complete length of employment can subject employee to reimburse the agency for fees, such as tuition and related fees, travel, and other special expenses (excluding salary) pain in connection with training.

Must successfully complete a required Police Training Academy or equivalent course, e.g. Navy Police Officer Academy; a federal or military
police academy; or equivalent law enforcement training. Must also successfully complete any annual sustainment training, Level 1 Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) contamination training (if applicable), and OC refresher training. This position does not meet the definition of Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) and is excluded from coverage as LEO for purposes of the Federal Employment Retirement System-Base Annuity in accordance with 5 CFR, Part 842, Subpart H.

Education

You may also qualify for the GS-0083-05 position if you possess the following education:

GS-0083-05: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.

This announcement uses the Police Officer direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

A 40-hour work week is typical for this position.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This position requires rotating shift work.

Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

Physical Demands: The work requires extended periods of physical exertion derived from such activities as running, walking, standing, climbing, bending, driving, and lifting/carrying heavy items. Requires physical stamina, agility and strength to defend themselves, defend others, pursue and apprehend or detain suspects. DoD and Department of Navy regulations require at a minimum a periodic physical agility test. Officers undergo sustainment training in defensive tactics to include Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) qualification, handcuffing, Taser, and firearms qualifications which require physical strength, skill and stamina. Note: Qualification incudes exposure to Oleoresin Capsicum spray as well as Taser when required for assigned duties as part of the training curriculum/qualification to carry.

Work Environment: The work is performed in an environment which involves exposure to regular and recurring discomforts, such as variations in weather while performing patrols. The incumbent may be exposed to high levels of noise in certain industrial settings, destructive weather or higher Force Protection Conditions (FPCON). The work involves moderate and high risk and possible endangerment of life or serious injury that requires the exercise of safety precautions and use of personal protective equipment such as body armor, reflective vests, coats, gloves, helmet, boots, goggles, masks, shields, etc.

A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
