Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is located with Fort Riley Directorate of Emergency Services.

A Special Salary Rate is authorized for Department of Army Police Officers assigned to Fort Riley, Kansas.

Duties

Help
  • Coordinate desk operations and provide guidance to military and civilian personnel.
  • Conduct training sessions for new employees.
  • Recommend maintenance or replacement of equipment.
  • Administer supply planning for the organization.
  • Dispatch personnel to emergency locations.
  • Receive and directs customers' calls according to nature of action.
  • Prepare and review legal documentation such as police reports.

  • Incumbent must be able to pass, prior to hiring, a physical and mental examination and undergo annual physical and mental examinations to ensure fitness for duty and must pass, within 6 months of hiring, a physical agility test.
  • Must obtain and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid.
  • This position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm.
  • Must be proficient in the use of and qualify annually with assigned duty weapons.
  • Employee must pass a Criminal History Background Check.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense.
  • This is a testing designated position. Personnel are required to sign DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program).
  • Personnel must pass drug screening prior to hiring and will be subject to random drug testing on an unannounced basis.
  • This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP), and has been designated by Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security.
  • Personnel must meet the standards for the IRP.
  • Employee is required to obtain and maintain a valid state (and military) driver's license.
  • Employee will be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays; and may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.
  • The wearing of uniforms is required, and the employee may be required to wear protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, shield, and body armor.
  • A high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene will be maintained at all times.
  • The face will be clean-shaven, except that mustaches are permitted.
  • If a mustache is worn, it will be kept neatly trimmed, tapered, tidy, and will not present a chopped off appearance.
  • Handlebar mustaches, goatees, and beards are not authorized. If appropriate medical authority prescribes a beard, the length required for medical treatment will also be specified. A neatly trimmed beard will then be authorized.

Qualifications

This is an Open/Continuous announcement. The initial cut-off date for referral will be July 31, 2023, with additional referrals created every two weeks thereafter until the announcement closing date.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1). Track area grid coordinates to patrol dispatch for emergencies; 2). Establish cross training among employees to maximize performance within the organization.; and 3). Examine data from law enforcement automated systems to coordinate the exchange of information with other civilian and military police organizations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Required Certification: Must have successfully completed one of the following: Mixed Basic Police Officer Training Course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC); Accredited civilian (Local or State) Law Enforcement Training Academy; Certified Military or Security Police training program (i.e. the United States Army Military Police School), or, if not previously certified, you will be required to complete the training within one year of your hire date.

NOTE: Failure to obtain this certification is grounds for removal from this position.

Education
