Being a Supervisory IT Specialist (Data Management) makes you a valuable member of the Data Services Division (DSD), Office of Innovation, Office of Inspector General (OIG), Department of Homeland (DHS). You will focus on designing, developing, and administering data management systems that meet DHS OIG requirements.

Typical assignments include:

  • Overseeing the planning, coordination, development, and completion of complex and varied projects to extract, transform, and load data into relational and non-relational data stores.
  • Designing and overseeing the implementation of complete data architectural solutions based on analysis of DHS OIG data requirements and specifications, including logical data models and physical structures, appropriate data repository, security controls, and methods of user interaction.
  • Monitoring and overseeing the virtual servers and applications within the OIG's Data Analytics Cloud System to ensure DAS is operating securely, efficiently, and effectively. Analyzes and plans for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements; evaluating and providing recommendations on new database technologies.
  • Applying oral and written communication skills to present, justify, and defend recommendations for data architecture solutions, tools, and technologies.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
In addition to the Basic Requirements, to qualify at the GS-14 level you must possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level performing duties in the Federal service or equivalent, such as:
1) Creating extract, transform, load, and enhancement objects to ingest structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data sources;
2) Expert knowledge of current and emerging cloud and data technologies;
3) Leading, coaching, and/or developing team members performing data architecture duties;
4) Managing or leading large and small data architecture projects.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. ***TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED***
