Duties

Help

  • Provides expert-level written communications support on multiple concurrent OIG investigations, engagements, or projects.
  • Works with engagement managers to frame research objectives and identify potential issues related to the engagement design.
  • Works with investigators on developing Reports of Investigation and other written products and ensures products are consistent with OIG policies and procedures, and/or Council of Inspectors General for Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) quality standards.
  • Assists staff in the development of policies and procedures which are consistent with CIGIE quality standards and/or Generally Accepted Government Accounting Standards (GAGAS) as applicable.
  • Facilitates discussions to help engagement managers assess evidence, identify themes, and reach consensus on a message.
  • Supports the development of audit products; provides input in the early stages of an audit engagement and feedback on message design and message agreement documents; and ensures consistency in the drafting of objectives, findings, and recommendations.
  • Ensures all four elements of a finding are present for engagement products with recommendations and provides input on the sufficiency of the level of evidence for those products.
  • Provides expert-level review and revision of draft products to improve coherence, logical flow, clarity, and adherence to OIG policies and procedures, GAGAS, and/or CIGIE quality standards as applicable.
  • Reviews draft reports, suggesting ways to clarify or strengthen the message or condense the product; and helps identify opportunities for graphics. Assists in drafting the highlights page, report cover, and Fast Facts as needed.
  • Works closely with counterparts to review contributions to OIG publications, briefings, Congressional testimonies, and manages production and publication of management challenges reports and semiannual reports to Congress.
  • Assists in the revision of documents to address stakeholder comments and helps teams summarize and respond to agency comments.
  • Ensures overall analysis and recommendations are appropriate by participating in survey, mid-point, outline, and report conferences with staff throughout the OIG to understand the intent of requests and requirements.
  • Develops training and guidance materials for staff on effective writing techniques, style guides, and review processes. Trains OIG staff members on effective writing and graphics.

Qualifications

Experience requirements

One year (52 Weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-2 or GS-12 level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to:

  • independently editing and publishing reports;
  • independently supporting multiple teams on publishing projects from conception to printing and distribution; and
  • coaching staff to develop clear and concise written products.
