The Director of the Office of Outreach is the lead outreach coordinator at the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Reporting to the Assistant Chair for Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives, the Director of the Office of Outreach leads on (1) Developing and implementing the agency's outreach strategy for program divisions and offices; (2) Deepening NEH's engagement with communities and institutions that have been historically underserved by NEH; (3) Expanding the agency's roster of peer reviewers to include greater participation from members of underserved communities, disciplines, and institutions; (4) Supporting the agency's Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) to advance NEH's commitment to DEIA; (5) Coordinating with the agency's Offices of Communications and Publications to ensure a cohesive outreach, communications, and branding strategy; and (6) Collaborating with the Office of Grant Management (OGM), the Office of Communications, and the program divisions/offices on increasing the accessibility of the agency's grant application process, especially for underserved communities and institutions.
Serves as the primary outreach coordinator responsible for developing and executing a cohesive, agency-wide outreach strategy with prospective grantees for NEH grant programs and initiatives.
Utilizes data collected by the Office of Data and Evaluation to create performance goals and metrics for the agency's outreach strategy, e.g., a measurable increase in successful applicants from underserved communities and institutions to the agency's grant programs.
Identifies new methods of agency outreach in coordination with NEH's program divisions and offices; staff working groups for stakeholder communities such as HBCUs, HSIs, and Native and Indigenous communities; and the network of 56 state and jurisdictional humanities councils.
Devises outreach workshops and events in conjunction with NEH program and administrative staff.
Advises potential applicants on opportunities for funding programs through established NEH grant lines and special initiatives.
Creates educational materials and workshops for first-time applicants and grantees to ensure compliance in the management of awards.
Collaborates with the Offices of Communications and Publications to ensure the agency's outreach goals are in alignment with its communications and branding strategies, as set forth by NEH's Equity Action Plan and Equity Task Force.
Advises on the agency's publications, social media, and website design to encourage public interest in NEH programs and convey clear and accessible application processes for the agency's funding opportunities.

At the GS-15 level Qualified candidates must possess: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level or equivalent experience.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example: Developing and implementing stakeholder engagement and outreach strategies and events for an organization, including conferences, seminars, and meetings; Nurturing strong relationships with key stakeholders within government, grant-making organizations, academia, local and state entities, cultural institutions and/or tribal communities; Overseeing a team of professionals dedicated to executing stakeholder engagement strategies; creating effective presentations and communications materials that convey the organization's mission and accomplishments, and determining short and long-term strategic goals to achieve them; and providing guidance and support to staff on best practices for stakeholder engagement OR other professional humanities work of equal importance, difficulty, and responsibility. All related experience must have been performed in a leadership/supervisory capacity.
Education
A Master's degree in a discipline of the humanities is required.
