This position is part of the Defense Media Activity, Defense Media Activity. This position is being filled under the memorandum from the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD(P&R)) "Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense," dated October 15, 2021.

As a IT Specialist (INFOSEC) at the GS-2210-12 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Manage unclassified and classified networks and systems cybersecurity requirements
  • Develop courses of actions and/or recommendations to the Information System Owner.
  • Advise management and provides guidance on complex IT security issues and advises others on how best to resolve issues and interpret guidance.
  • Conduct surveys, evaluations, and reviews to enforce or assess compliance with DMA and Department of Defense (DoD) CS standards and policies.
  • Develop policies, programs, and plans related to cyber security (CS) operations ensuring compliance with DoD policy and the Risk Management Framework.
  • Identifies and specifies information system security requirements and assists in carrying out in-depth analyses of system development plans to ensure security requirements and specifications are effectively implemented.

  • Some occasional weekend and after-hours work are required. Employee may be required to occasionally work overtime or compensatory time, evenings, weekends, and federal holidays.
  • This position may relocate to Fort Meade, Tobyhanna Army Depot or other DMA locations worldwide. The incumbent will be offered relocation assistance in accordance with the Joint Travel Regulation, Chapter 5, Part F.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS -12 , if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:

  • Analyzing, planning, and developing Cyber Security for networks and systems related to cyber security operations.
  • Training and overseeing Cyber IT and work activities of action officers consisting of military, government-civilian, and contractor personnel.
  • Knowledge and skill in applying security principles and methods of securing systems to conform within DOD policy and the Risk Management Framework. Extensive experience with eMASS.
  • Working with Information System Security Officers and system administrators on the planning, analysis, development and implementation and documentation of complex IT systems.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Experience

Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate

GS-5 through GS-15 (or equivalent): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

Specialized Experience for GS-7 (or equivalent) and Above: Positions at GS-7 (or equivalent) and above require one year of specialized experience at the next lower GS-grade (or equivalent). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. The employing agency is responsible for defining the specialized experience based on the requirements of the position being filled.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
