This is an OPEN CONTINUSOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 29, 2023.

  • The initial cut-off date will be 07/07/2023 with subsequent cut-off dates every other Friday. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.
  • This is an open continuous announcement. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.
Major Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for providing direct patient centered care in a variety of clinical settings (Extended Care & Rehab/ Spinal Cord & Injury, Primary Care, Specialty Care, Procedural Areas, Intensive Care, Emergency Department, Outpatient Clinics. and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC))
  • Works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse as assigned by the Nurse Manager/ Nursing Supervisor or designee
  • Clinical care of the patients correlates to previous clinical experiences and competency validation
  • Will work under direction of accountable RN as assigned by Nurse Manager/Nursing Supervisor
  • Primary role is to assist in an assigned area while gaining nursing exposure and experience (this may include supporting continuous observation with 1-2 patients as needed to support patient treatment plan and safety)
  • Recognizes, reports, and takes appropriate action for changes in patient condition including emergencies
  • Monitors patients in seclusion/ 1:1 observation using worksheet and assignment sheet
  • Initiates seizure precautions as directed
Work Schedule: Intermittent Status- Day, Evening, and Night tours available. 8 hour shifts. 7 days a week offered, including holidays. Minimum of 2-4 shifts per month.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements at the time of application.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Student of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Education: Completed one full academic year post high school and enrolled in an Associates of Nursing Degree, Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing degree, Master of Science in Nursing degree, or bridge program.
Grade Determination:
SNT-3 Completion of 1 academic year of post-high school study, no clinical rotations required.
SNT-4 Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study and completed clinical rotations.
SNT-5 Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school study and completed clinical rotations or completed a Bachelor's in a related field and entering into an entry-level Master's Nursing Program.

Physical Requirements: Heavy Lifting (up to 35 lbs); Moderate Carrying (15-35 lbs); Reaching Above Shoulder; Ability and dexterity of hand(s) to manage gross and fine motor tasks of patient care (i.e. IV insertion, wound care management, etc.); Walking Throughout Assigned Shift; Standing As Duties Require; Kneeling as Duties Require; Repeated Bending As Duties Require; Near Vision Correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far Vision Correctable in One Eye To 20/50 and to 20/100 In the Other; Color Vision; Hearing (aid permitted); and Specific Hearing Requirements.
