As a Social Media Specialist at the GS-1035-07/09/11, some of your typical work assignments may include:
Familiarity with online branding, media and campaign management, online search algorithms and cross-channel strategies.
Skills in analyzing the effectiveness of communication via media campaigns.
Uses a variety of methods and techniques to achieve communication goals.
Experience with making recommendations to supervisor on appropriate means for producing and evaluating effectiveness of digital media plans developed to communicate to internal and external audiences.
Assess and evaluates digital media assets for registration awareness to meet organizational goals and objectives.
Establishes the function and direction for new social media and other communications dissemination channels and content to support agency programs and informational campaigns.
Develops internal and external reports. Knowledge of MS Office products and the Adobe Suite Platform.
In-depth understanding of social media platforms and understands the necessary methods and techniques to achieve the Agency's registration awareness.
Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). You must include an SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one) that supports meeting this requirement with your application package. To qualify for the Social Media Specialist, GS-1035-07 position you must have completed at least one (1) year of specialized work experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. This experience includes applying knowledge and skill in public awareness and communication methods and adaptation of approaches in developing new information materials and formats aimed at enhancing the public's understanding of significant agency programs and issues. Must have skill working with standard office automated applications such as photo composition, and technical competence with miscellaneous equipment. This experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.

To qualify for the Social Media Specialist, GS-1035-09 position, you must have completed at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level (GS-07) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. This experience included utilizing methods and techniques to the solution of complex public affairs problems such as developing and presenting informational material to achieve understanding of various points of view or concepts from publics with varying levels of understanding and different interests and perspectives on the subjects; employing a number of information gathering techniques in collecting and analyzing public reaction to information programs; and developing recommendations for management in improving the agency's communication with the general public and specialized groups. This experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.

B. Have a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in a related field such as: Public Affairs, Marketing, Communication and Outreach, Quantitative methods, Public Service, Public Communication and Organizations, etc.

To qualify for the Social Media Specialist, GS-1035-11 position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level (GS-09) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. This experience includes establishing the need for information materials to support Agency programs; using a variety of methods and techniques in achieving communication goals; and providing news releases, feature articles, speeches, fact sheets, background papers, public service announcement, websites content, etc., to agency offices. This experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.
