As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:

  • Oversee the identification of appropriate content and develops myriad types of communications and marketing efforts and initiatives.
  • Serve as the main point of contact concerning the timeliness and quality of work products and assigned responsibilities for the VA OIG public affairs efforts.
  • Prepare oral and written reports, edits congressional testimony, writes and reviews Inspector General town hall narratives and presentations and ensures that promotional materials are presented in a clear, concise, and effective manner for the targeted audience.
  • Represent VA OIG effectively in both internal and external meetings, informal presentations, including agency, interagency, and industry meetings and other settings.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Acting as an agency spokesperson; AND
- Developing communications plans, talking points, speeches, press releases, and/or media advisories; AND
- Cultivating positive relationships with agency senior executives, veteran services organizations or other key industry stakeholders, and national and local media.

How You will be Evaluated:

Category rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three quality level categories, A-Exceptionally Qualified, B-Highly Qualified, or C-Qualified, depending on your responses to the online questions, regarding your experience, education, and training related to this position. Your rating may be lowered if your responses to the online questions are not supported by the education and/or experience described in your application.

Veterans' preference is applied after applicants are assessed. Preference-eligibles will be listed at the top of their assigned category and considered before non-preference-eligibles in that category. Qualified preference-eligibles with a compensable service-connected disability of 10% or more will be listed at the top of the highest category.
