Help

As an IT Specialist (DATAMGT), you will:

  • Provide technical leadership and expertise to the Office of Public Health Data, Surveillance, and Technology (OPHDST), CDC, and state, territorial, local, and tribal (STLT) partners
  • Collaborate with the Office of Public Health Data, Surveillance, and Technology (OPHDST) leadership, CDC programs, and state, territorial, local, and tribal (STLT) partners to develop, implement, and maintain response-ready platforms, tools, and solutions to support the exchange, integration, analysis, and dissemination of critical public health data
  • Contribute to creating new data science analytic methods or modify current methods (such as machine learning) and use current technology to achieve the desired results while ensuring the scientific integrity and validity of the outputs
  • Incorporate a human-centered design approach, engaging with end users to understand needs, recommend and prioritize solutions, and continually test and improve solutions
  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates and set and adjust short-term priorities and schedules

This Information will be required annually.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience providing data management guidance, advice and analyzing data to support the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of information systems.

Applicants must also have IT-related experience demonstrating the required technical skills, knowledge, and abilities and possess the following competencies:

ATTENTION TO DETAIL, CUSTOMER SERVICE, ORAL COMMUNICATION AND PROBLEM SOLVING.

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current or Former Political Appointees: Agencies must seek prior approval from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) before they can appoint a current or recent political appointee to a competitive or non-political excepted service position at any level under the provisions of title 5, United States Code. Positions may be available in multiple locations across the United States, or eligible for telework and remote work opportunities, based on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) Workplace Flexibilities Policy.

The salary listed is Rest of U.S. (RUS). Locality pay will be adjusted to reflect location negotiated after selection. If selected, you will be required to sign a Workplace Flexibilities Agreement. Find more information on locality and pay scales.
