This is a Title 32 excepted service position. This vacancy is OPEN to the public, to those in the UTARNG or willing to join. This job announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies for additional positions vacated during the job bid process. IAW UTNGR 690-12 dated 19 APR 2018 and LIUNA-UTARNG CBA dated 11 NOV 2018, Priority will be given to all current, onboard employees of the UTNG.

Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list

As a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR (SSC) (Title 32), WG-5703-9, you will:

  • Serves as a Small Shop Chief.
  • Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s).
  • Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished.
  • Estimates manpower, equipment and material requirements.
  • Devises and maintains all program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance.
  • Plans, organizes and directs shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision.
  • Plans, organizes and directs shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision.
  • Determines approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Performs the same type and level of work as performed within the unit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.

Compatible Military Assignments: CMF 91, MOS: 25B, 36B, 51C, 88M/N, 89A/B, 92A/F/G/Y.

For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Medical screening will be completed upon selection for hire.

Soldiers who accept a technician position may be terminated from the Bonus and Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP).

Indefinite positions may be converted to permanent status without further competition.

National Guard Membership is required.

Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

This position is eligible to be in the union: Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 1776.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess 18 month of experience which demonstrates the ability to operate and perform operator maintenance on straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds. Experience demonstrating ability to operate truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers and motor coaches. Experience operating vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades. Experience driving vehicles without mishap in complicated traffic situations.
