Duties

Help
  • You will maintain the 24/7 support of systems used to retrieve, process and utilize remotely sensed data at all classification levels.
  • You will provide written and verbal system updates and mission impacts to chain of command.
  • You will plan, design and implement Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC) systems to receive, process and distribute data.
  • You will exploit remotely sensed data to advance numerical modeling, tactical imagery and products.
  • You will provide detailed budget reports and analysis on current and future programs.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience performing advanced theoretical remote sensing techniques, space communication systems, electromagnetic spectrum, including the dynamics of space and atmospheric interaction, meteorology and the application of computer methods of numerical weather analysis and prediction sufficient to place and format the data accordingly for a particular data communication protocol
  • Experience performing theories, methods and techniques of professional physics sufficient to serve as a staff specialist working to improve forecast guidance and the performance of tactical decision aids for one or more of the major product areas.
  • Experience maintaining satellite communication, their sensors, the algorithms used to produce environmental estimates, and the products derived from meteorology, oceanography, satellite sensor produced data in order to create sensor data units and convert them back to raw counts to include use of ancillary data.
  • Experience performing knowledge of an advanced programming language such as FORTRAN, an advanced operating system such as LINUX, software and database configuration management, and visualization of large scientific data sets in order to transform remotely sensed data utilizing mathematical formulas and parameters to create an algorithm producing an environmental data record.
  • Experience leading agency and interagency level technical and budgetary meetings in order to translate requirements for remotely sensed data to military value and address return on investment and total ownership cost equations for budgeting and justification purposes.

Education

Basic Requirements:

  1. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

FAILURE TO SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS/ITEMIZED LIST WILL RESULT IN AN INELIGIBLE RATING.
