JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of the position is to instruct and perform flight crew work supporting heavy multi engine aircraft, and to provide assistance to the pilot in the overall operation of the aircraft. Primary aircraft include CH 47 Chinook medium-lift transport helicopter, and/or UH 60A Black Hawk transport helicopter. The aircrafts missions include combat service support airlift for movement of heavy supplies, vehicles, aircraft and equipment, troop air assaults, extractions and resupply of troops, and aeromedical evacuations, search and rescue, ice break, mine sweep, and air support of national disasters and state contingencies.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.

The major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as instructor/flight examiner providing instruction, evaluation and examination on ground and operational training flights to develop and upgrade skills of aircrew members.
  • May perform duties of Flight Engineer which includes utilizing a knowledge of major aircraft systems associated with heavy multiengine aircraft.
  • Ensures prescribed programs of instruction for aircrew training is adequately covered in terms of course content, coverage, and scope of material presented.
  • Incumbent provides assistance to the pilot in preflight planning, monitoring adherence to flight plan, and operating aircraft engines and a wide variety of aircraft control systems, e.g., engine, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, fire suppression, environmental, pressurization throughout the flight.
  • Adapts instruction to proficiency level of individuals being rated.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class II FDME.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience which has provided the applicant with a knowledge of aircraft weight and balance computations; aircraft performance data; aircraft records maintenance; and aircraft systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 24 months of specialized experience in the following:

  • Experience with the CH-47 Chinook medium-lift transport helicopter and UH-60 Black Hawk transport multi-engine aircraft.
  • Experience performing a full range of aircrew duties and responsibilities, methods or instructions and requirements.
  • Experience using life support equipment and emergency safety procedures.
  • Experience operating aerospace ground equipment.
  • Experience planning, scheduling, developing, and conducting training and training scenarios to enhance realistic unit training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to serve as CH-47 and UH-60 A/L/M flight engineer, providing support to the pilots by preparing weight and balance forms, aircraft flight readiness inspections, loading and securing cargo, loading and briefing passengers.
  • Ability to perform a variety of administrative functions associated with administration of the enlisted aircrew training program.
  • Knowledge of major aircraft systems associated with heavy multi-engine aircraft, the interrelationships among these systems, and capabilities of the aircraft.
  • Ability to indoctrinate crew by briefing on mission equipment and use of life support equipment and safety emergency procedures.
  • Ability to maintain records of operational equipment indicating flights, repairs, maintenance and inspections.

COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.

UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within state

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class II Flight Duty Medical Evaluation (FDME). For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

No substitution of education for specialized experience.

Primary Change of Station (PCS) relocation expenses will NOT be paid.

Incentive Termination without Recoupment: If you accept a Military Technician (Mil Tech) Permanent position where membership in the National Guard is a condition of employment, your bonus will be terminated with no recoupment as long as you have served at least 6 months of the bonus contract following receipt of the initial bonus payment.
