Duties

Help

Performs work that involves planning and coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and/or maintenance of hardware or software systems using standard principles, theories, concepts and methods for systems administration. Implements security plans, policies, and preventive maintenance schedules. Utilizes diagnostic tools and techniques to verify operability, optimize the functionality of networks and/or systems, and to diagnose/recover failed systems. Carries out routine maintenance, upgrade, and support of hardware, operating systems, and/or applications software. Provides ongoing optimization and problem solving support to minimize interruptions in customers' ability to carry out critical business activities. Manages network rights and access to systems and equipment. Interprets and applies information security and information assurance policy, principles, and practices in the delivery of systems administration services. Prepares and presents reports and briefings to technical staff

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE CLEARLY VERIFIABLE IN YOUR RESUME.

Specialized IT experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training or IT certification which demonstrates skill in applying:principles and methods for integrating information systems components; Performance tuning tools and techniques; System diagnostic tool and fault identification techniques; Systems administration methods; and IT security principles. OR Completion of a master's degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in computer science/engineering, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours as indicated above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks. In addition, candidates must demonstrate IT-related experience which addresses the following five competencies:1. Attention to detail - Such as implementing quality control procedures and conducting compliance reviews. 2. Customer service - Such as providing assistance to both internal and external customers; assessing customers' needs, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction. 3. Verbal communication - Such as conducting formal presentations or training to audiences at varying levels of hierarchy and technical expertise. 4. Demonstrated problem-solving skills - Such as identifying the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Highly qualified candidates are those who:

Have experience with hardware and software system administration in the past 3 years; have direct experience with preventative maintenance (system patching, backup and recovery, and hypervisor health; have direct experience with information assurance policies, principals and practices, ie host-based or end-point security.

Conditions of Employment

Appointment subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks. Must currently possess or obtain and maintain a satisfactory Tier 3R investigation. Must possess or obtain (within 6 months of employment) and maintain most applicable Computing Environment (CE) certificates of training and a minimum Information Assurance baseline security certification of Security+ equivalent (or higher certification) in accordance with DoD 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Technical, Level II technicians.
